Busy Day

Our house is on the market and we are constantly leaving the house for showings. It gets so tiring to try and plan a day around showings when you get a notification during the day. We have three dogs and I kennel two of them and bring one with me. We usually go to my mom's and on Friday's we have a cleaning lady come over. I had to schedule her early in the morning which is horrible for Walker. I had to wake him almost 2 full hours before he usually wakes up and head over to my sister's.

Of course cousin Adam was awake and so happy to see Walker. Don't even try to put glasses on Walker that early in the morning. Just DON'T!

"I want your drink"

"I said give it to me Adam" He picks on Adam all the time. It goes both ways.

19 Months!

HOLY MOLY! How are we so close to 2 years old?!

Walker is getting so big. I'm pretty sure he learns something new every day. I very rarely forget to praise God for all Walker's new achievements!

So what's been up with our baby? He's walking, talking, climbing, using a fork, can scribble with a crayon, picking up his toys, knows "Patty Cake" and "If You're Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands" his receptive language is outstanding, and he loves the dogs more and more.

Words: cracker, pancake, Papa, Dad, Tie Tie, Moe-Ma (momma), hi, bye bye, tickle tickle, go outside, kennel, and uh oh. I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. His little voice melts my heart. The NICU doctors and pediatrician all remind you that he could be hoarse from the extended use of the vent tube and vocal cord paralysis. So you prepare yourself. There was a time when Walker did sound like he would have a hoarse voice but I don't hear it anymore.

Walking- he picked up on fast. He can walk backwards, spin in circles and he has been trying to jump (which is pretty damn cute!). He can jump on couches, chairs, bodies, and beds. He loves stairs and climbing to the very top and it freaks us out.

Using a fork- this was more of a problem for me. I had given him a spoon and fork before but he would use it at the end of the meal and he would make a mess. This was more a "me thing" and letting him find his way. He can now use a spoon correctly and puts food on the fork and then brings it to his mouth.

Using a crayon- This was another "me thing". I was tired of picking wax off of his teeth. He loved putting crayons in his mouth and eating them. He has since learned to scribble on paper and then takes a small nibble, just for a bite.

Picking up his toys: The other day I was telling Walker we were going to go night night and the next thing I know he is picking up his Easter bucket and putting small toys inside and putting it in the cubby space. I was a proud Momma!

Receptive language- When I ask Walker to get his drink he'll walk to wherever he left it and bring it to me. He can find his paci when asked. He knows when I say, "let's go let Tie Tie out", to go to the dog's kennel and then walk to the backdoor. "Let's go night night", and Walker heads to his room. Every morning I pick him up from his bed and tell him to throw his pacis in the bed, and he does. He knows how to "brush his hair" and when we say "let's brush your teeth" he opens his mouth.

Walker loves the dogs. He loves following them to the food bowl and then running to watch Tie eat his food in another room. It's a back and forth thing. Every time he hears the dogs regardless of who it is, he yells, "YIE YIE?!"

Walker is growing up so fast. I think the growth from 1-2 years is such a big change. He is no longer a baby.  He no longer needs Momma to snuggle with to fall asleep. Well, some nights he still does but I think he likes our bed and all my pillows I sleep with.

He has a mind of his own and such a strong-willed little boy. He does things on his own time and in his own way. He doesn't like help and gets frustrated when he can't do things himself. He is a daredevil and is scared of the most non scary things. He'll happily play in a dark room with scary noises and giggle and laugh. We know this because we try to scare him from going into places he shouldn't be. He doesn't care. He likes the adventure. He never leaves a place without making a friend. He begs for busboys and waiters to pick him up. He watches intently at kids crying or throwing fits. He is a calm natured baby and rarely whines, cries or throws fits.
I'm so proud to be his mom.

Look What I Bought Today

The Flintstones vitamin are for Walker. R has always taken vitamins and is rarely sick so we decided to start Walker on some.

The other stuff is for me. I had an appointment with a new OB and we went over everything. I was so nervous about not forgetting to mention everything I wanted to talk about that I barely slept that night. Walker was super excited about going to the hospital so he didn't sleep well either.

Dr. I and I discussed everything. We talked about getting pregnant with Walker, my pregnancy, things I did before going into preterm labor (PTL), delivery, and Walker's 6 month NICU stay. I really liked him. Somehow we started talking Jimmy Kimmel and his skit the other night "Baby Bachelor". That's how easy he was to talk to. Our personalities clicked and I honestly felt like I was talking to a male doctor friend. I really, really liked him. His office is in the new Pavilion for Women at Texas Children's Hospital. I needed to have all my ducks in a row this time.

So we discussed getting pregnant again and we have a plan set in motion. We talked about how I would be considered high risk and would be getting weekly progesterone shots from week 16-36 weeks while pregnant. We went over everything. Now is the part of my body responding to Clomid again and everything working itself out in that department. That doesn't mean that I will be announcing a pregnancy in the next month of two but hopefully soon after.

We were super cautious when I was pregnant with Walker. We didn't tell anyone but close family until around 8 weeks, I announced on my Facebook page at 12 weeks because that's the "safe zone" (or so I thought); I did every thing right. This time things might be different. It's so easy to say that we will be open and "free" this time but, honestly, we don't know.

Our journey to get pregnant is not simple and this time we have a lot of emotion baggage filled with "what ifs". Be patient with us.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day did not start out well for the Emery household. There was a lot of drama. We had made plans to have a catered lunch at my parent's house and we had a lot of fun. We also had two showings on the house that day. What a way for those people to spend Mother's Day.

Izzy always helping out Baby Walkies.
We ate fajitas, relaxed, played with the bubble machine, and Dad even let me indulge a little and throw things away from their garage. I love throwing stuff away. Such a release!
I promise Walker wears pants.

We ALL share!

Hilarious!

March of Dimes, March for Babies- Houston

I am so proud of our MOD team, Walker's Stalkers. We raised an insane amount of money for our first year. $3,330 to be exact! We were super excited for the walk and to see all of our friends and family out supporting babies and mothers. Unfortunately the Saturday before the walk, Houston had a huge downpour. Streets were flooded and the rain was not stopping. It rained all Saturday night and a small shower Sunday morning. I was flowing the MOD-Houston Facebook page and at 1am they called the walk off.

We were so upset. I had little girls and little boys crying their eyes out early in the morning. They were so excited to walk with their friends. Walker's Stalkers was selected to have a sign sponsored by a Houston company along the walk. I was most sad that we wouldn't get a picture of it. A representative later on sent me a picture of Walker's sign. We love it.
I had my very talented friend, JMack from Two Little Birds designs, design our team shirts. She is super talented and does so many things. Check out her store. Two Little Birds
I had Walker model the shirt but he is all over the place these days and it was hard. This was the best I could do.
That day we were pretty upset about not walking. We were hoping to see nurses, doctors, volunteers from Texas Children's at the walk. We called our family and decided to get dressed in our team shirts and go out for lunch.
We want to thank each and every one of you who donated to our team and sent the link to your friends to give. Thank you for helping preemies like Walker!

Catching up

Walker is so funny! He has such a little stubborn personality and has to do things his way. In the picture below our neighbor was chasing his two dachshunds down the street. One of the dogs was brown like our Tie Bear and Walker was standing there watching him run up and down the street saying, "YIE? YIE YIE?" He was confused.

Washing away the craziness.

Walker turns on the baby when his dad is around. The picture below is proof. He never lets me hold him like a baby but he knows his dad treats him like he's a little baby and Walker allows him too.

Walker loves to be outside. I open the back door and he'll play on the back patio all day long. He doesn't go off of the concrete. He watches the dogs run and bark and just enjoys himself.

1 Year Homecoming Anniversary

April 17, 2013

Wow! Our sweet little Walker has been home for a whole year. The NICU rollercoaster has become a distant memory to us. While the experience is still fresh, looking back at pictures really takes us back to that time. I'm so glad that I took pictures every day. Even on the bad days when we wanted to forget.

A lot has happened in the one year Walker has been home. He came home with a port and was hooked up to TPN/Omegaven for 3 months and R made sure to fatten him up and keep him constantly gaining weight so we could take the port out. Oh gosh! And the home nurse! Good grief! I'm so glad we are finished with her.

Walker hit all of his milestones at home and I'm proud to say that I have witnessed every one. (Even if my mom thinks she saw things first).

We have soaked up every little piece of this year. As I write about the first year at home I'm flooded with emotions. Walker is a 25 week miracle. Not just because he lived, but because there could have been many things go wrong. R and I fully relied on our faith during those gruesome months in the hospital. Sometimes we would lay in bed and ask each other, "what should we do?". We never really said it to each other but we prayed those nights and by morning our hearts would lead us to what we thought were the right decisions for Walker.

He is our pride and joy and we thank God every day for blessing us with Walker.
